As Phil Collins is getting set for his December show at the Newcastle Arena, we recall his concert at the same venue on this day in 1997
Let's face it, in the glamourous world of 1980s pop, Phil Collins perhaps cut an unlikely figure next to the likes of Michael Jackson, Madonna and George Michael.
But the one-time child actor, and drummer and singer with rock giants Genesis, had seamlessly graduated into one of the world's biggest solo stars with albums like Face Value and No Jacket Required.
His 1982 hit In The Air Tongiht - complete with its famous drum break - was one of the decade's defining songs.
In recent years, the 66-year-old who has amassed more than 100 million record sales, has battled health problems, but he is heading back to Newcastle Arena on Decmeber 2 this year on his Not Dead Yet tour.
And it was on this day 20 years ago that Collins was at the Arena, performing songs new and old.
Our reviewer declared: "The ageing rocker was greeted initially by a restrained yet polite packed Newcastle Arena.
"Collins, supported by a merry-go-round of musical excellence, started proceedings with most of his newer material which went down well, rather than wildly enthusiastic, with the Arena visitors.
"But ultimately a stunning selection of drum-based songs and his willingness to reproduce some of his older material brought massive appreciation among the swaying ranks of fans.
"Towards the end of an energetic and thrilling performance the crowd, which initially seemed relatively quiet, was begging for more on a memorable night."
We await the 2017 Phil Collins in just a few weeks time at Newcastle Arena.
