Improvements At Wrekenton Flats

Three multi-storey blocks at Wrekenton have received significant improvements thanks to a scheme procured and developed by Gateshead Council's Energy Services Team.

The work has transformed the appearance of Beacon, Lough and Fell Courts and also made them warmer and more energy efficient.

The scheme was funded from Gateshead Council's Housing Investment Budget and was supported by a £250,000 grant from energy companies through AgilityEco Ltd.

The Gateshead Housing Company managed delivery of the work on site, most of which was carried out by British Gas.

External wall insulation has been fitted to the blocks, and all the flats and communal areas have been fitted with new double-glazed windows. In addition the roof coverings have all been renewed.

Neil Bouch, the housing company's Director of Customers and Communities, said: "This is a very exciting refurbishment for three of our blocks.

"As well as making the blocks look great, the insulation and new windows will make the flats warmer during the colder months and may help reduce fuel bills."
