The Blaydon Shed

The Blaydon Shed is a new, relaxed space for men over 18 to come and hang out, meet new friends, enjoy a cuppa and a chat, learn new skills and share their skills with others.

Set up over a year ago by members of the local community with funding from Gateshead Council, Royal Voluntary Service, Asda Foundation and the Hadrian Trust, it offers:

  • free Wifi and two computers

  • free drinks and snacks

  • a workshop with various tools and materials

  • a garden

Fiona Teasdale, Chair of Blaydon Shed's management board said: "You can come along and help generally with jobs, do your own project or just enjoy a cuppa and a natter. We have the facilities to do all sorts from woodworking to growing plants, renovating furniture to recycling projects and much more. There's no stress, no pressure and no expectations - just come along and be yourself."

And as well as the men's sessions, the Shed also runs:

The Blaydon Shed Swap Station - a wide range of goods are available to individuals, small businesses and local charities/causes. We can either swap or accept a cash donation in exchange for goods.

DIY classes for women - every Tuesday and Friday from 1-3pm. Costs £4 per person per session.

Recycled and unrecycled craft sessions - 1-3pm. Costs £4 per person per session. Bring along broken goods or items you want to do up.

Currently open every Tuesday and Friday from 11am-3pm, the Shed is located in the basement rooms of St Cuthbert's Community Hall, next to the new blue flats on Shibdon Road.
