More than 180 school children have been inspired to learn more about their local heritage after taking part in the Land of Oak & Iron educational activities project.
Dynamic in-school sessions are bringing the past to life and fun filled trips to local heritage sites such as Chopwell Wood and Derwentcote Steel Furnace are happening across schools in the Derwent Valley.
Incorporating natural art, storytelling, rural crafts and skills, the project is really working; receiving a positive reaction from all the schools that are involved with feedback from teachers such as: "It's often very hard to get children excited about their local heritage, however the children wanted to know more and more after the session with the Land of Oak & Iron."
You can discover Land of Oak & Iron for yourself during upcoming events including Discover Fest from 16-24 September. There are loads of activities to choose from or come along to the first Land of Oak & Iron quiz night to be held on Wednesdya 8 November.
Land of Oak & Iron programme is hosted by Groundwork NE & Cumbria and supported by National Lottery players through the Heritage Lottery Fund.
