The pioneering HenPower project, piloted in 2012 in Gateshead, has taken the top spot to be named the TSB Community Partner in the Pride of the North East Awards.
The project brings hen-keeping and creative sessions to older people and those living with dementia to tackle loneliness and improve wellbeing.
Residents living at Wood Green in Bill Quay are among the thousands benenfiting from having feathered neighbours and creative session with artists.
Recently, some of our older volunteers, known as hensioners, joined Equal Arts staff at the awards ceremony.
The winners go forward to be considered in the national Pride of Britain Awards later this year.
