Newcastle Startup Week founder greenlights second annual event

Paul Lancaster has revealed that the popular event for small businesses will go ahead next year

Newcastle's highly successful Startup Week will return for a second year, its founder has confirmed.

Paul Lancaster, who organised the five-day event for local entrepreneurs and would-be business people, said that he was putting the wwheels in motion for another event next year.

Over 600 delegates from the North East start-up community attended the citywide event. It was also attended by a host of high profile speakers from tech giants Sage, Uber, Digital Union, Sunderland Software City, and the Federation of Small Businesses.

Mr Lancaster said: "Having spent almost 15 years helping other people start and grow their own business, I've built up a tremendous network around me and have a very good knowledge of where startups should go for the best advice and support.

"Newcastle Startup Week was an opportunity to pull everything together under one banner and put everything on a plate to show people why Newcastle and the North East is such a great place to start and grow a business."

Startup Week took place from May 15-19, with each day given a specific theme and focus, such as 'getting started' or 'funding and financing'.

After nien months of planning, the event proved a success with the local business communtiy and Mr Lancaster received a lot of positive feedback from attendees. Because of this response it was decided that a second event would be a held in 2018.

An exact date for next year's event as not yet been decided.

In addition the Startup Week team will also host a one-day event on November 23 called the Newcastle Scale-up Summit. The summit will build on the Growing and Scalling day that took place during Startup Week.

Mr Lancaster added: "We're going to build on last month's event with a One-day 'Newcastle Scaleup Summit' at the Live Theatre on 23rd. This will be a more practical, hands-on event where delegates can learn how toher local entrepreneurs have successfully grown their business in the morning, followed by a series of facilitated workshops, 1-2-1s and breakout sessions to help them get stuck in and start the process of growing and scaling.

Tickets for the summit cost £80 and can be boguht on the Newcastle Startup Week website.
