It's a nightclub many Geordies have fond memories of and Heart North East are campaigning to host a night in Julie's honour
It's a Newcastle nightclub that many still hold dear and a petition has been launched to bring Julie's back...for one night only.
In the 1970s, 80s 90s and early 00s the Quayside haunt was THE place to be seen for Geordie revellers, after a message from keen listener and former Julie's doorman Jed Irving about how much the songs on their Time Tunnel segment reminded him of the club, radio station Heart North East are campaigning to turn back the clock and party Julie's style one last time.
Since closing, Julie's been home to bars like Blue and Jimmy's and currnet occupants Tiger Hornsby have agreed to host a night in its honour if the Heart petition gathers more than 1,000 signatures.
And Jed, aka Big Jed to ex regulars, says he won't be the only person with very fond memories of Julie's, the place famous for its wild Christmas fancy dress parties and frequent visits from Newcastle United players, amongst many other things.
A spokesperson told Chronicle Live: "I worked the door in Julie's in the 70s and 80s and I remember it attracting a rather unique clique of people," "To me they were always quite fashion forward and we'd often hear that they'd been turned away from other places like Madison's and Tuxedo Juncion for not dressing correctly!
"Julie's was the place to go back in an era when pubs closed at half 10/11, not like they do now.
"That meant that from 11 o'clock most of the clubs in town would be heaving as everyone had been chucked out of the bars."
Jed saw many people through the doors during his time at Julie's, two very famous ones that really stick in the memory.
"On a night in the early 80s I remember one of the others lads telling me there were these two right posers in the club with blonde hair and loud clothes who were promoting a record.
"They'd left a few copies on the counter and it only turned out to be Wham so that's definitely one to remember!"
While Jed has admitted that his memory is rather hazy on what music was played at Julie's when he worked the door, there's one song that will always remind him of his former stomping ground.
"For some reason, I'm not entirely sure, Nina Simone's My Baby Just Cares For Me would be played at least once very night.
"It's a song that I'll always associate with the place. Obviously all the New Romantic stuff like Soft Cell and Duran Duran was big at the time but that's the song that really sticks out.
"If the Julie's party goes ahead the music will be critical and so will the crowd. The place was always jumping when I was there.
"And obviously I'll be on the door, although no-one would probably get in as I'd be too busy chatting to them!"
