71 Fun and Famous photos Newcastle Color Obstacle Rush

The sun shone on Newcastle Racecourse as thousands turned out for the Rush

The sun shone on this year's Color Obstacle Rush at Newcastle Racecourse, ensuring huge crowds taking part and fabulous photographs, as you can see!

The organisers have just shared these shots with us, taken by Kay Zieba Photography - and they are sure to bring a smile to our face.

Covered in paint and festival-style make-up, wearing tutus, sunglasses (a must to keep the paint out of your eyes) and brightly coloured accessories of all kinds, the participants really go into the spirits of the occasion before tackling the 5k course.

Twenty giant obstacle were set out - double the number from the first Newcastle Color Obstacle Rush in 2015 - and colour packets handed out to all. And there was foam, music stations and extra squirts of paint from course marshalls on the way round.

And yes, its name is spelled in the American way - as Color not Colour - as that is the name of the company which organises the event.

For safety's sake, not everyone starts at once, and the Newcastle "Rushers" were asked to make way for faster racers sliding, crawling and running the course - you can see a real look of determination on a couple of faces here.

However, most seem to be out to simply have fun with friends and family - with children and veteran runners taking part. The event, which is costing around 340 per ticket, took place at the Gosforth site on June 17 but we thoguht you would still enjoy seeing these marvellous photographs and trying to spot anyone you know.

The huge crowds are visible in the warm-up photographs, but there are some great group hugs and lots of fun action shots from along the course.
