Broadcaster Mike Neville thought that the letter telling him that he was to be included in a Tyneside Walk of Fame was a hoax.

Mike was one of four new additions to NewcastleGateshead's Walk of Fame in a recent public vote.

In a ceremony on thursday bronze plaques to Mike, together with historian, heritage expert and author John Grundy, actor Tim Healy and singer songwriter Brian Johnson, were unveiled on the Newcastle-Gateshead quayside walk route.

They join the existing 29 plaques that currently make up the "NewcastleGateshead Local Hereos" collection from Baltic Square to the Swing Bridge, across the River Tyne, to the Gateshead Millennium Bridge.

Miek said: "I thought it was a hoax quite honestly. I opened the envelope and thought this can't be me as I haven't been on television or in the public eye for about 11 years - they've obviously made a mistake, or it got lost in the post originally.

"But I'm absolutely thrilled. you do not expect it to happen to you, and when it does it's a great thrill, a wondeful thrill."

He also had a message for those who voted for him: "A thank you fo remembering who I was, and thank you for remembering who I hope, I still am."

John grundy, whose plaquw is near the historic Guildhall in Newcastle Quayside, was delighted to be now part of the view.

He said: "it seemed something that other people receive and not me. I couldn't quite get my head around it at first.

"Right beside the Guildhall, right beside the River Tyne - in the midst of all those fantastic bridges.

"It's just amazing to be permanetly a part of that view."

Former AC/DC and Geordie singer Brian Johnson was unable to attend and was represnted by his daughter Kala, who said: "We're really thrilled. It's really exciting and it's such an honour.

"It's really nice that they have put it on the Gateshead side because he's from Dunston."

Tim Healy said that he was "absolutely made up" to be given a plaque near Newcastles Live Theatre.

He said: "I'm proud of Live Theatre - I started my career there, and they were some of the best times of my life.

"In 1973 we started in a block of flats in Gateshead, and eventually we got a little arts grant from Northern Arts and now 44 years later we've got this fantastic building just a stones throw away from my plaque so I'm very, very happy about that."
