Anyone walking through Newcastle city centre on Saturday morning might have been surprised to see a large queue of people of all ages standing outside of Travelling Man Shop on Grainger Street.
People young and old were lined up at the door of the Travelling Man shop, which specialises in comic books, graphic novels and table top games.
The queue went all the way down the street - but why?
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's Free Comic Book Day! Around the world comic book fans were queuing to take part in the annual event.
Travelling Man worker said: "It's one of the our busiest days of the year. We have advertisments running in the month running up to the day to let as many people know about it as possible. The queue is always huge so we have free food and drink on for the people waiting.
"This is a big international event."
Held on the first Saturday of May every year, organisers say Free Comic Book Day is founded on the belief that for every person, there is a comic book they will love.
The industry comes together for the giveaway and encourage fans - both and new - to flock to their local comic book shops
Major publishers such as DC Comics, Marvel Comics Dark Horses Comics, IDW Publishing and Image Comics give out free copies for fans to enjoy at the more than 2,300 comic book stores that take part.
Comics involved include superhereos, popular films and TV shows and video games.
Popular series from past years have included Bob's Burgers, Doctor Who, Assassin's Creed, and SpongeBob.
